Restoration Information & FAQ

What is water/mold/lead restoration?
Restoration is the re-construction or rebuilding of the damaged areas that were removed during your water/mold/lead remediation or abatement. "Remediation" and "Abatement" are industry terms describing the removal of a contaminated area (ex. water damaged drywall & cabinetry.) The restoration would put the areas affected by the remediation/abatement back to an original state.

What is remediation/abatement?
Remediation is the act of containing and removing mold, water damage, lead or other harmful materials from a building in a controlled manner. This can also be referred to as abatement.

What is lead renovation?
As of April 22nd, 2010 all contractors that wish to do work on any building constructed pre-1978 must be EPA-RRP Certified Contracting Firms and must follow lead safe practices. All areas of construction must be first tested for lead by a certified renovator. If an area of construction is tested and found to have lead then lead safe work practices must be followed.  If you have any further questions or interest please see our lead information section found HERE.

How do I know if I have mold or water damage?
The first and easiest way is by visually inspecting the area that is in question. If you can visibly see mold or smell a musty odor then its best to contact a professional for further air and/or surface testing.

Are water damage and mold the same?
Water damage and mold are not the same. Mold requires 3 things to survive and thrive; the correct temperature, a surface to grow on (wood, paper, etc.), and moisture. The only practical aspect a homeowner can control is the moisture level. Leaving a water damaged area sit in disrepair will only cause more damage in time and possibly lead to mold, more so if the source of the damage is not found and repaired. This can lead to toxic mold which has been known to cause Allergies, Irritation and in some cases Invasive Disease. So it is best to contact a professional ASAP.

What do I do if I have mold or water damage?
Water and mold damage only worsen with time. If you see the presence of water damage or visible mold it's best to call an expert to inspect the area before it worsens. TBG Restoration can put you in touch with several certified inspectors. If the inspector finds toxic mold you may find yourself in need of remediation and subsequently restoration.

I contacted a certified inspector and he found mold in my home, what now?
You will need a mold remediation company to preform the removal (remediation) of the contaminated area(s) that your certified inspector has outlined. Once the contaminated area(s) have been removed and cleaned you are ready for your restoration (rebuild) and well on your way to peace of mind.

Does TBG Restoration perform mold remediation?
TBG Restoration is a full scope general contracting firm specializing in mold, water damage and lead restoration (rebuilding damaged areas after remediation is performed.) We currently do not perform mold remediation, however we are affiliated with several remediation companies in the Los Angeles area and it would be our pleasure to refer them to you.
